The Carnaval and Salvador

We left Porto Seguro 3 days ago and headed north to Salvador, the 3rd largest city in Brazil while Ofri and Idan went back south to Rio de Janeiro. I guess the next time we will meet them will be in Israel or in Lima - Peru for LEL HASEDER. Who knows.

To tell you the truth the carnaval was not what we expected it to be. We left Rio like most travellers do and went to Porto Seguro. A seven day party having Brazilian bands playing music from trucks that were going up the main street and loads of people on the streets dancing and singing along. If we would have known some of the bands it could have been better i guess but despite that it was ok. It is the same all over Brazil except in Rio and Sau Paulo. Over there the carnaval is the way everyone knows like on TV.

Salvador is nice. We are staying in Pelourino, the old city center where all the night life happens. You can find plenty of restaurants and Cafes which are quite nice. Live music is being played in most pubs and restaurants where you can relax and listen to Brazilian samba while drinking caipirinia.

On Friday we even went to BET HABAD and did kabalat shabat. It was really nice.
Hilla:
It was a very exciting experience. After almost 3 months of traveling, i really felt like home. The rabi and his wife made sure that everything would be perfect. We sat at a big table, with lots of other Israeli travellers, and sang Jewish songs.. That night reminded me that no matter where i am, how long I'm travelling, or how amazing the places are, there is no place like home... :-)

Tomorrow we are taking a bus and boat to Moro de Sau Paulo - an island which is suppose to be amazing according to many people we have met. We are going to stay there a few days and then instead of taking a 30 and something hour bus to Rio de Janeiro we are going to enjoy a 2 hour flight which will make our lives much easier.

Great post Hilla, way to go...

Much more human and exciting writing then the boring characterless write of Elad.

Where are the naked ladies ! I didn't even see one pair of boobs ! are you keeping the pictures to yourself ??? anyway, as usual you seem to be having a great time (minus the boobs-sight-seeing...) I'm sure you will meet other cool people to travel with. Maybe you should try to mingle with the local population and get a few tips about secret places to go. As Kraus says and as I was saying to Hilla on MSN : Elad, for the love of god, get a tan ! Hilla, Yes indeed your intervention in the blog brings a female touch that is welcome. You made me all sentimental about the "no place like home" speach. ADIOS AMIGOS continue enjoying. And just one last thing, hilla, go buy your man a new shirt, something fun like "i love brazil" or something like that, because i'm tired of seeing elad with the same "sprite" shirt all the time ! ;-)

Hi friends.
It's great to read the stories of yours trip.
It's look like the time still standing in South America.
People are really different there. I guess you missing to the ruppin, especially when you relaxe in the beaches. Bolivia is really special country if I compare it to other countries in South America.
Hilla I believe that's now you understand about what I was taking with you before the trip.
Ok friends I have to go to sleep, you know life is not a trip.
Have fun and buy allots of souvenirs.
