From El Chalten to Rio Gallegos

Today we arrived to Rio GAllegos after taking the bus from El Calafate. We had a wonderful time in El Calafate being at the Moreno Glacier and then going by bus to El Chalten, a small village surrounded by mountains and by the famous Fitz Roy which can only be seen when and if you are lucky on a good day. Guess what? After being unlucky loads of times, this time was different. We could see the mountain overlooking the village on a windy day.

The day before, Hilla the Canadian and I have went on a day trek to one of the lagoons in the area. A 6 hour walk with rain and mud all over. Although not having the greatest weather, the rain started later on when we were on our way back. Up until then, we could sit by the water eat our lunch and relax while staring at the glacier falling down onto the lagoon.

The next day, Hilla stayed at the hostel doing laundry and relaxing a little while I went on my own to the Fitz Roy trek. That is when i had the great weather and could see the great mountain chain. I wont write too much cause a picture is worth a 1000 words.

Being in El Chalten was the first time Hilla and I stayed in a dorm. Hilla was shocked that we had to stay in a dorm but had no choice. Most places didn't have doubles and the ones that did were really expensive. At first she was mad but then it turned out to be fine cause the people we stayed with were really nice.

Sylvester was also nice. El Chalten is a small village so no parties or pubs in the area. We went to a nice resto bar and sat there until 1:00.

Now we are in Rio Gallegos staying here another night and waiting for our next bus to somewhere not known yet..

The dorm experience reminded me of the army... you don't get to choose your mates there... :| anyways, the pictures are beautiful as always and happy 2007 to you both! :-)
